Konferenzbeiträge in den Ingenieurwissenschaften Open Access veröffentlichen
(Publishing conference papers in engineering Open Access)
In engineering, conference papers play an important role in communicating new research results. Are you giving a talk or presenting a poster at a conference and would like your paper to appear Open Access? As a rule, the type of publication is specified by the organisers. In this online seminar, organised by UB Braunschweig, ULB Darmstadt and TIB Hannover, you will learn what rights and options you have as an author to publish your contribution open access.

(Coffee Lecture – TU Darmstadt's OA Fund: How are Open Access publications funded?)
If you publish your research results with Open Access licences, you increase visibility and make it easier for other scientists to use them.
Many third-party funding organisations recommend or require Open Access. However, authors usually have to pay publication fees. In this Coffee Lecture, you will find out what funding ULB offers and how you can easily apply for funding.
Attend the event on site: ULB Stadtmitte, S1|20 Room 112a, Magdalenenstraße 8, 64289 Darmstadt, Germany OR online via Zoom (please register for October 26, 2023). The event is in German.

Events during Open Access Week 2022

  • An online seminar for scientists will take place at ULB Darmstadt on 25 October (11:40am-1:20pm via Zoom):
Make the most of your rights as an author: Higher visibility through Green Open Access (aka secondary publishing)
Since 2014, the German Copyright Act (Urheberrechtsgesetz, UrhG) has strengthened the rights of scientific authors. The seminar will show how you can secure and use your rights and reach higher visibility through secondary publication. Thus even journal articles behind paywalls or conference proceedings with low circulation can be made widely available. Thomas Hartmann will be the speaker. He works as a legal scholar with a focus on copyright and e-science at FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure and will answer your questions:
    • What rights do I have as an author under German Copyright Law?
    • How do I secure my rights when I contact a publisher?
    • When is the best time for a secondary publication?
    • How can TU Darmstadt and ULB support me?
The event will be held in German. Please register by e-mail with the Digital Publishing Team . Should you be interested in an English language consultation or custom seminar about this topic, please contact the Digital Publishing Team as well.
  • 26. October, 10a.m.-11a.m. and 27. October, 2p.m.-3p.m.:
    Publishing conference papers Open Access
Conference papers play an important role in communicating new research results. You are giving a talk or presenting a poster at a conference and would like your contribution to be published Open Access? Usually, the type of publication is specified by the organizers. In this online seminar provided by FID BAUdigital you will learn what rights and options you have as an author to publish your contribution open access.
Participate without prior registration: https://www.fid-bau.de/open-access/ (The event will be held in German.)

19 – 25 October 2020

This year, the scientists at TU Darmstadt were informed by email of the latest developments in Open Access:

  • The Open Access working group was founded in June 2018 as a TU-wide discussion forum. The next public meeting will take place in November 2020. Join the discussion!
  • The Open Access policy of the Technical University of Darmstadt was adopted on 29.8.2019.
  • Since 2019 TUdatalib, the TU's research data repository, has enabled the secure archiving and sharing of research data as well as the publication of data, software and code under open licences.
  • The DEAL contract with Springer was signed in January 2020. TU Darmstadt's participation enables its authors to publish Open Access articles in hybrid or pure OA journals with no additional costs.
  • The publication guideline came into force on 1.2.2020. It applies to all scientific publications that are produced at TU Darmstadt, and specifies the recommendations of the OA policy. The standardised designations are “Technische Universität Darmstadt” and “Technical University of Darmstadt”.
  • An interface between the Dissemin web service and the university repository TUprints has been making the second publication of your works easier since 23.2.2020.
  • The “Open Access and Open Educational Resources in Engineering” (OpenIng) project ended this year. All TU staff and members benefit from the new digital publishing services
  • Professor Andrea Rapp was appointed the OA representative in the summer semester of 2020.
  • Open Access is an especially important topic with regard to research data, too. TU Darmstadt supports this with its leading role in the NFDI4Ing Consortium – the National Research Data Infrastructure for Engineering Sciences – which officially started work on 1.10.2020. It includes the development of a journal for quality-assured Open Access publication of research data and descriptions thereof for the engineering sciences.
  • TU remains involved in HeFDI – Hesse Research Data Infrastructure – in developing research data management in Hesse.

The University and State Library supports you with information, advice, funding and technical assistance for your first and second publications.

  • Information on the ULB website and individual advice by email and Zoom, workshops on enquiry.
  • Financial support from the OA Fund for journal articles and monographs, special conditions for individual publishers, and the possibility of publishing OA journals.
  • TUprints, TU Darmstadt's OA repository, enables all members and dependants to produce a wide range of publications free of charge, such as articles, books, book chapters, publication series, conference and university publications.

Would you like to make any published articles available through Open Access as well?
This can be done in a single second publication. You upload your document to TUprints yourself using the Dissemin web service, which searches your publications, checks their availability and then loads them into a free repository such as TUprints at the click of a mouse. Alternatively, you can use the second publication service, in which ULB takes over all the processes for you, from checking the rights to uploading suitable publications.
