Equal Pay Day & International Women’s Day 2025

2025/03/07

Women in the European Union (EU) earn on average 12.7 % less per hour than men.

Every year, Equal Pay Day highlights the percentage differences in the average gross earnings of women and men worldwide. This difference is also known as the gender pay gap.

Since 1911, on 8 March, women around the world have been raising the issue of gender equality to public attention on International Women's Day.

Gender equality is also a fundamental principle of the EU, but it is not yet a reality.

What is the EU doing to support gender equality and reduce the gender pay gap?
