Services for 3D Data at the ULB

2024/07/02

Since summer 2024, the ULB has been involved in two DFG-funded projects that focus on the processing and presentation of 3D data on the web:

  • The project DFG Viewer 3D – Infrastructure for Digital 3D Reconstructions serves as a digital 3D viewer infrastructure for 3D cultural heritage models and is intended as a permanent infrastructure offering to enable sustainable accessibility and archiving of raw data sets and meta-information on the one hand, and to support collaboration and multidisciplinary specialist discourse on the virtual model by generating 3D web models from common data types on the other. The ULB Darmstadt is involved as a practice partner which integrates the DFG 3D Viewer into the NFDI4Ing Data Ingest Service, among other
  • The platform IDOVIR – Infrastructure for Documentation of Virtual Reconstructions strives for making results in the field of digital architectural reconstruction available in a comprehensible, permanent, and open-access form and to facilitate scientific discussion of the research results.

These projects strengthen the ULB's existing projects and services in the field of 3D data, especially in the DFG project Three-dimensional digitisation of insect collections and the Ingest service within the German National Research Data Infrastructure for Engineering Sciences (NFDI4Ing).
