Mikrocosm in 3D

Exhibition from 29.01. to 09.04.20

2020/01/28

More than a million described insects live on earth today. A large part of these species is endangered – by land use, pollution and climate change. So in Germany alone, in the last 25 years the biomass of insects has been decreased by more than 75 %. The effects of this decrease on our ecosystems are dramatic. It is high time to learn more about the live and manifold tasks of insects and to develop effective strategies for protection. On this issue, virtual 3D-models created by a new insect scanner DISC3D made in Darmstadt can help.

The exhibition „The Mikrocosm in 3D“ invites visitors to a voyage into the world of insects. Scripts about insects from the historical collections of the ULB are combined with objects from of the Hessian State Museum and interactive three-dimensional models of insects developed by the Digital Natural History Archive Darmstadt DiNArDa (registered association).
