Association founded to promote the RDMO software

The 'RDMO. Research Data Management Organiser e.V.' association was founded on 19 November 2024. For that purpose, representatives of colleges, universities, libraries and research institutes from all over Germany met at the TU Berlin University Library.

The association is dedicated to promoting the management of research data and research processes in general and particularly the open and free software of the same name, RDMO. In addition to providing fundamental support for the cooperative further development of RDMO, the association will professionalise release management and support the open-source community with an office. The association is based in Darmstadt and the office is located at the ULB Darmstadt. The Research Data Management Organiser supports research projects in the planning, implementation and administration of all research data management tasks further information.

The creation of RDMO was funded by the DFG in two project phases from 2015 to 2020 and subsequently transferred to a community-supported working group. This working group is now being transformed into the permanent structures of an association to provide a framework for the open-source community.

The following were elected for the founding board: Gerald Jagusch (president, TU Darmstadt), Martin Spenger (vice president, LMU München), Janine Straka (vice president, University of Potsdam), Johannes Frenzel (treasurer, Ruhr-University Bochum) und Jürgen Rohrwild (secretary, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg).

The RDMO e.V. is looking forward to welcoming other RDMO-using institutions as members in order to strengthen the association and to represent the RDMO community as comprehensively as possible. The admission of new members is expected to be possible from summer 2025. Only institutions with legal capacity can become members. If you have any questions, please contact the association by .

ULB Darmstadt has been using RDMO since 2017 and is one of the key players in this Germany wide community. Based on RDMO, we operate over 20 interconnected data management planning portals for numerous research institutes, colleges and universities, including in Hesse and for Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (NFDI). At TU Darmstadt, this service is known as TUdmo. Since 2024, RDMO has also formed the technical basis for the NFDI basic service DMP4NFDI.
