Bible Collection of Wedinghausen Monastery

On the occasion of the 850 years jubilee of the monastery of Wedinghausen the ULB shot a film about its impressive bible collection which the library now owns. Through the commitment of Grand Duke Ludwig I. sixteen bible imprints among numerous other manuscripts found their way into library.
The film shows the variety of older bible imprints, for instance large-size formats with elaborate decorations or „pocket books“ which might be taken along while traveling, artful woodcuts, rare imprints in German language as well as in Old Greek or Latin. Not only the content is multifaceted, also the book covers show how divers the content was wrapped in earlier times – starting with simple parchment and ending with finest calf leather with gold plating.
