Cultural Property Protection Consultant – Matthias Frankenstein

Since summer 2023, Matthias Frankenstein has been Head of the Collections Care Department of the University and State Library and, in this role, is also responsible for the Darmstadt Emergency Association, which has existed since 2015. At the beginning of the year, he was appointed to the Disaster Management Staff of the city of Darmstadt. He believes there is still a lot to be done in terms of the preventive setup of Darmstadt's cultural institutions. The emergency plans that are important for the fire department are often missing. Preparations for the various scenarios also need to be expanded and deepened. An important element for him is to hold more frequent and regular exercises with all those involved in a crisis in order to practice and deepen the handling of the archive and collection items, which have very different requirements.
