Open Access Policy of Cultural Heritage Sites in Hessia

2022/03/07

The ULB took a leading part in a project which aimed to establish an open access policy of all cultural heritage sites in Hessia and invites to a virtual final meeting on 24 March.

The Open Access Policy of the Cultural Heritage Sites in Hessia was published in December 2021. It is the result report of a project by more than ten Hessian cultural insititutions now running for more than one year. However, it is only the first of more steps to come, for the the signing institutions have agreed on the realisation of a ten point plan and specific digitization and opening measures. Point one of this self commitment provides the strategic direction: cultural objects and data shall be made accessible und usable via the internet „as open as possible“.

At the end of the project the participants now present the technical, legal, and financial aspects touched by this maxim in the different fields of cultural heritage. Looking back, the way towards an interdisciplinary open access policy will be pointed out. Looking into the future, it will be discussed how the open access policy and the network of cultural heritage sites may be consolidated – in Hessia, nationwide, and on an international level.

We invite you to a virtual closing event on 24 March at 10am. The detailed programme will be published soon on this site. Please register now per mail at and receive a link to participate in the web conference.
