“Zukunft die bleibt” – Remaining Future

2018/01/19

Hesse is a county with a long tradition of writing and printing, captured on millions of parchment and paper pages. All these treasures are stored in the closed stacks of the State and University Libraries of Kassel, Marburg, Gießen, Frankfurt, Fulda, Wiesbaden und Darmstadt. Together, these libraries which still maintain and expand their collections unite the scientific and cultural production as well as the memory of Hesse.

The information brochure “Zukunft die bleibt” testifies this important part of Hessian identity. It briefly introduces the libraries, tells their history and gives insights into their today’s professional conceptions and future plans. The abundance of colourful and sometimes stunning pictures is not only meant as an inventory of facts but also as an invitation to own research: from mediaeval manuscripts to old newspapers, in the meantime many treasures are digitized and can be browsed individually.

The 64 pages-booklet can be ordered in print from the seven libraries or from the Hessian State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts. An electronic version can be downloaded at the University Library of Kassel.
