“Strange Days“ – Arno Schmidt and Darmstadt 1955-58

Exhibition from 12 October 2019 to 5 January 2020 at three sites and shops in the inner city of Darmstadt

In the 40th year of Arno Schmidt’s death two departments of the TU Darmstadt, the Department of Arts at Hochschule Darmstadt and the University and State Library commemorate the time the author lived in Darmstadt.

The exhibition focuses on the short four years in which Arno Schmidt created literary monuments for Darmstadt with his many short stories and short novels he wrote there.

To arouse special attention from the audience in Darmstadt to the interconnections of Arno Schmidt’s texts with the municipal context, the exhibition takes places at several sites at once. In a joint campaign with local retailers further exhibits and allusions to Arno Schmidt’s tales will be shown in local shop windows like a creative web of memorials.

Exhibition opening
The exhibition is opened at 11 October 2019 at 06.00 p.m. in the lecture room of ULB Darmstadt.
