International Day of Democracy on 15th September

2025/09/11

Since 2007, International Day of Democracy has been celebrated on 15 September.

Live democracy! – is the basis for a free and equal community. As early as 1916, John Dewey (philosopher and educator) published his theses, in which he emphasised the importance of education and upbringing in conveying democratic ideas. Access to education and literature is an important factor in forming an opinion. Then democracy can be lived – in the family, at school and in society.

On International Day of Democracy , the ULB Darmstadt invites you to discover and explore its diverse range of offerings on this topic.
