11 September 1944 as a turning point in the history of the Darmstadt library.
On the night of 11 to 12 September 1944, Darmstadt Schloss and the cultural institutions housed there were destroyed by fire. The lecture focuses on the Hessian State Library and examines the role of the library during the Nazi era, its preparations for the air war and the reconstruction measures up to the end of the 1950s.
