L’Italia in Bocca

Pizza and pasta, dolci, icecream, and coffee specialities, exquisite wine and spirits – „Bella Italia“ is for many people the epitome of many delicacies which, besides the tasty pleasure, have become a symbol for mediterranean way of living. But this view from Germany to Italy is in no way modern. Since the middle ages the knowledge of Italian cooking, of cooking practices and customary incredients, finds its way into the regions north of the Alps. Dietetics, way of living, and culinaric delicacies from the land where the lemons grow was received by the media since the middle ages and influence the image of Italy in Germany ever since.

A working group at the Institute of History at the TU Darmstadt under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Gerrit Jasper Schenk in colaboration with the ULB collected testimonies of this culinaric and cultural tradition and shows in „L‘Italia in bocca“ a special German-Italian cultural history of the last 500 years.

Exhibition opening
The exhibition is opened at 3 July 2023 at 06.00 p.m. in the lecture room of ULB Darmstadt.
