The ULB mourns the late Director Dr. Yorck Alexander Haase

2019/01/07

After a serious Illness Dr. Yorck A. Haase died on New Year’s Eve at the age of 84 years. Dr. Haase was Head of Librarian and Director of the former State Library between 1977 and 1999.

After his studies of theatre sciences, history of arts and history he completed a library traineeship at the Herzog August-Library in Wolfenbüttel. He started his career in Darmstadt in 1977. Additionally, as chairman of the audit committee for the state exam in the now dissolved Library School in Frankfurt a. Main he dedicated himself to the support of young academic librarians.

His term of office included the expansion of the library in the castle, the introduction of data processing, the development of a first “corporate identity” for the library with the help of an own logo, and finally the preparations for the integration of the library into the University of Technology.

After his retirement until shortly before his death he remained closely linked to the ULB and to his great passion, the theatre. As a honorary employee he visited the Dept. Historical Collections at least once a week to look after the theatre collection which he once helped to install and to answer questions and purchase suggestions by library users.

We have lost a truly sensitive and warm-hearted man – we will greatly miss him.
