Thursday, 12 April to Sunday, 10 June at ULB Stadtmitte Exhibition opening on Wednesday, 11 April 2018, at 6pm in the lecture room at ULB Stadtmitte.

The Defenestration of royal delegates at Prague in 1618 led Central Europe into a political and social crisis hitherto unknown. The following thirty years were characterized by military aggression, exploitation, and destruction. At the same time the enormous interest in events and political actors produced new heroes who were marketed successfully in the print media of that time. The exhibition shows a selection of pamphlets, books, and manuscripts from the historic stocks of the ULB. Apart from popular motives such as the Fenestration of Prague by Matthäus Merian or the pictures of the Swedish King Gustav Adolf the themes cover also specific Hessian aspects, among them the influence of the warfare on the region and the dynastic programme of the princely family in Darmstadt.
