2018/02/07

Till 5 March you can test the electronic version of the Historisches Wörterbuch der Philosophie (HWPh). The encyclopaedic German lexicon documents in around 6000 articles the origin and genesis of 3670 philosophical terms and concepts. It describes their changes of meaning and functions from their first appearance till today.

The Historisches Wörterbuch der Philosophie (HWPh), written between 1971 and 2007 and contributed by more than 1500 specialists, is one of the most comprehensive publication projects in the recent research on humanities in German speaking countries. The HWPh is not based on the history of ideas and problems like other lexicons, but on the history of philosophical terms and concepts which are described synchronically within certain epochs and schools or diachronically within the occidental history of philosophy. Among specific philosophical terms you can also find terms from adjacent subjects like theology, psychology, education, sociology, history, history of arts, politics, law, medicine and natural sciences.

The database is accessible within the IP range of the TU Darmstadt (including wi-fi via Eduroam) and for TU-members via VPN from outside: https://www.schwabeonline.ch/hwph.
