Exhibition “Who was Emmanuel Bove?”

2017/05/03

The exhibition documents for the first time the live, work and literary influence of Emmanuel Bove. It shows a selection of documents which have never been exhibited before, among them two newly discovered, unknown short stories.

Rainer Maria Rilke and Klaus Mann were among his earliest admirers, but the „precision in observation“ in the texts of the French writer Emmanuel Bove (1898 – 1945) also made a deep impression on other contemporary readers. Not until the German writer Peter Handke translated the first novel in the publishing programme “Bibliothek Suhrkamp” (i.e. „Meine Freunde“, 1981) Bove became known to a wider audience. The person behind the author still remains peculiarly blurred till today.
