Tribute to the Golden Bull

2015/09/01

After the ULB has been registered in the UNESCO “Memory of the World Programme” the library receives the official documents at a ceremony on September 8 at 7 p.m. in the lecture hall of the ULB Stadtmitte by Prof. Joachim-Felix Leonhard, the Chairman of the German nomination committee.

In June 2013 the remaining sevens original manuscripts of the Golden Bull of 1356, named for the golden seal it carried, were registered in the UNESCO “Memory of the World Programme”. The Bull was a decree issued by the Roman Emperor Charles IV which for a period of more than four hundred years defined the constitutional structure of the Holy Roman Empire. Each of the seven explicitly named Prince-electors who were to choose the King was dedicated a copy. The copy assigned to the Archbishop of Cologne is held by the ULB Darmstadt since 1803.
