This quote by Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, is the title of our accompanying exhibition to “A Step Ahead / Einen Schritt voraus” – 125 years of exhibitions by the Mathildenhöhe Artists’ Colony.

We show literature on the four architectural exhibitions held at Darmstadt’s Mathildenhöhe between 1901 and 1914, and introduce all the architects and artists who took part at the time.

The exhibition was conceived and designed by Ulrike Wobrich and Connie Lücke and will be open to visitors from 15 June 2026.
